Approach to Therapy

I am drawn to Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, often called “Parts Work,” to support clients who are navigating disruptions in their relationship with food and their body, but will also pull from other modalities.

Many people experiencing disordered eating describe moments when a part of themselves—or sometimes several parts—seem to take over. In these moments, it can feel as though you are no longer in the driver’s seat.

IFS therapy helps us gently explore these parts with curiosity and compassion, understanding how each part may be trying to protect or help you—even when its strategies are causing distress. In this approach, there are no bad parts. Every part has a role, a story, and the capacity to heal.

As we build relationships with these parts, space begins to open for you to reconnect with your core Self—the calm, compassionate, and confident center that already exists within you.

You don’t have to navigate your inner world alone. Together, we can learn to listen to it with compassion and care.

After your session, you’ll receive an invoice by email. To complete your payment, please send an e‑transfer to christywestratherapy@gmail.com. Once your payment processed, a receipt will be emailed to you. You can then submit this receipt to your health insurance provider for reimbursement.

Cancellation Policy

Appointments are reserved especially for you. I understand that sometimes schedule adjustments are necessary.  Therefore, I respectfully request at least 24-hour notice for cancellations or rescheduling of appointments. If not, you will be required to pay the full cost of the session.

What Can I Expect?

Therapy Sessions

  • Duration: Typically 50 minutes

  • Focus: Centered around you—your needs, your goals, and your pace

A Safe and Inclusive Space

  • All parts of you are welcome.

  • I recognize that our emotional lives are shaped not only by personal history but also by the larger social and systemic forces around us.

  • Your healing is approached with awareness of these influences.

Your Healing in Action

  • The work we do together is designed to ripple outward, supporting your sense of self, your relationships, and the concerns that brought you here.

  • Sessions are generally weekly or biweekly, which is often most effective.

  • Our first session is flexible: we can take the time to get to know your story, or dive right in—your choice.

  • As you progress, many people find that fewer sessions are needed, and session frequency can always be adjusted to meet your evolving needs.
